International Women's Day 2020

To get involved with #NotJust just print off your own selfie sign and tell us why you are #NotJust anything - you are everything!

“We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women's achievements.” IWD 2020.

This year the official International Women’s Day campaign is #EachForEqual. This campaign is designed to stress the importance of individual actions in the fight for gender equality. We will be running a campaign in tandem with this to emphasise the importance of positive self-talk as a tool for empowerment.

Here at Molke we believe wholeheartedly in body positivity and empowerment of women and marginalised groups, but we understand this isn’t something that always comes easy for everyone. It’s time to think a bit more about this and the small ways we can actively promote empowerment and acceptance in our daily lives. This year we urge you to rethink the ways in which you talk about yourself. Language is powerful and can impact the way you feel and how others interact with you.

Women have a complicated history of talking themselves down. This isn’t always a noticeable thing but we are more likely to qualify our statements with “I just wanted to…” or “I’m sorry but…” It is one way that women have learned to avoid those dreaded labels “pushy”, “bossy” or “smug” and it has been passed down, often unconsciously, through the way we interact with each other. But our actions, enquiries and qualities are not to be minimised. We have as much right to take up space as anyone else.

So for International Women’s Day this year try thinking about how you describe yourself. You are #NotJust any one thing. We want you to recognise the variety of experiences and traits that come together to make you YOU.

We will be sharing posts about our amazing Pixies all this week in the run up to IWD on Sunday and will continue to share throughout the year. If you would like to get involved you can download your own #NotJust placard and take a selfie telling us what you are #NotJust and why. It doesn't have to be serious, it can be fun! Tell us how or why you would like to change the way you talk about yourself. Make sure you tag Molke and International Women's Day and you can also use their hashtag #EachForEqual.

There is nothing to be gained by diminishing yourself – you are #NotJust.
